Clicking from under the '91 4WD XJ

Hi all,

I'm trying to ID what actually needs fixing on my XJ. There is a clicking that 'seems' like it comes from underneath the front of the vehicle. I've been told it might be one of the axle u-joints but when I climb under the vehicle with the wheel turned it doesn't seem like there is anything loose that could click there.

The clicking sound is slower or faster depending on the speed of the vehicle. Once I get up over 35 or 40 the noise is fairly hard to hear. It's much more noticable between 5 to 20 MPH.

Does anyone have ideas on what it might be and how to ID if that part's really bad and causing the clicking?

Your Wheel bearings could be making the noise....?

since it is more with speed and the noise disapates near 40 mph i would say it is your inner U-joints. the ones on your short shaft drivers side is your best bet to check. just lift the vehicle and turn the wheel back and forth maualy with your hans. and shake it around, you should see it wobble a bit. hope this helps
