Question Clicking in engine bay

There's a clicking coming from around the fuel rail area or exhaust. I have a 4 cylinder 2.5L 1999 xj. I also get a pretty rich fuel smell after running it for a little. Any help as to what it could be? exhaust manifold? fuel injectors? crack in the exhaust? It also made a strange buzzing sound for a little the other day. it buzzed until I'd open up the throttle then it would start to go away, but as soon as i took my foot off the gas it would come back.

The clicking is the injectors which is normal. The richness could be anything. Someone else may be able to narrow more.

Not to thread jack but mine does the same thing. It sounds like the click of a diesel. I was thinking I had a bad lifter or something. Could that really just be injectors? I have a 4.0 btw

A faint click is likely the injectors. If its noisier then it could be something else.

There is an electronic device near the MAP sensor (forgot what it is, maybe vacuum related?) that sometimes makes an electronic click click click (similar to a relay) sound. It's perfectly normal and will usually go away in a matter of hours. Or days. Or weeks. But never lasts for more than a year or two. Or three.

Lifter tick is also common but that is a mechanical sound related to engine RPM. I believe that the injector tick is also RPM-dependent. Does the noise change based on RPM?

It does change with RPM I think but it's hard to tell sometimes. I'll check out the throttle body area too though cuz it started right around the time I changed out my tps

...just remembered, it's the vapor canister purge valve that clicks.

Yeah, AX15, 4.88s on 6.5" and 35s. It's always just been OK but now it's just plain a hoot to drive. I might be imagining things but it seems like it wants to break the tires loose at high RPMs in first - maybe even in second? Of course MTZ P3s are hardly drag slicks. Regardless, this was clearly a bottleneck for me; I did headers, hi flow cat, and catback - looks like now I need to go get the factory crush taken out of the downpipe!!

It truly feels like a whole new motor. It's amazing how it seems to change everything about how it drives. I owe this forum yet again!
