Click when attempting to start.
I searched and couldn't find anyone else having this issue. I started the jeep (88 XJ 5spd 4.0) backed it into my garage and started ripping out the carpet. I did have the stereo on for about 1 hr while I worked. I got in it to drop off some old tires and it wont start. First I get no clicks, no noises at all. I still have all dome lights and door light, stereo still plays. I shut everything off and let her sit for about 10 minutes while I clean. I get in her now (still lights and stereo) and now I only get a serious of loud rapid mechanical clicks. Very fast, probably 10-15 ticks in a second. I hooked her up to my 01XJ and got a fairly healthy spark from the cables( I know it is a no no). Tried to give her some juice see if that would do anything...nothing came of it. Unhooked the jeeps, banged on the starter with a hammer...again nothing. Don't get it. Before I go and yank the starter out does anybody have a clue? Is it solenoid, or the starter, or just a simple relay. Thanks in advance.
