I bought the Recharger kit which includes the cleaner and the oil.
First you spray both sides of the filter with the cleaner, you need to let it soak in for about 10 minutes to loosen the dirt.
Then you rinse by applying a water stream onto the clean side of the filter (so the dirt can fall out of the dirty side), but don't use high pressure, high pressure water can damage the filter.
After rinsing, gently shake excess water off, and then let the filter dry naturally, don't use anything to dry the filter quickly, it could damage the filter.
Once the filter is completely dry, then you can oil it. The oil is red, and you apply it to the dirty side only. There are 2 types of oil, aerosol and squeeze bottle, here are methods for using them:

A. If using a K&N squeeze bottle, squeeze bead of oil along the crown of
each pleat using the lip on the squeeze bottle tip as a guide. Utilize
graduated view strip on bottle to dispense proper amount of oil.
B. If using a K&N aerosol spray, spray an even amount of oil along the
crown of each pleat.

Let the oil absorb into the filter for about 20 minutes, and check the clean side to see if more oil needs to be added, it should look evenly red. Just don't use too much oil. Use just enough to make the clean side red.
Here is the website that I got the information from:
I followed those instructions, and it worked great for me!
