also, what's the part in the last pic. if it's not the tv cable, can someone direct me to it? a diagram to find it would be nice. thanks!
(i'm new to xj's if you can't tell. this site is awesome though and i thank you for all your help. my wife isn't happy i found it cuz i spend a lot of time on it, but i sure am! i hope to keep this xj running for a long long time)

that cable with the spring is your shifter linkage its not a tv cable by the way the clip on the bottom of that picture looks like its not pushed in all the way which would cause the linkage possibly to pop out so if your having starting problems and you think its the nss it might be this and you might not be in park all the way which would cause it to seem like an nss problem i had this problem went down to the junk yard and got just the clip out of one changed it out and it was good to go they wear out pretty easly if its been taken on and off a few times you dont even need to take the cable out or anything just unclip it and disconnect the end from the bracket tranny side and the bottom of that spring unscrews and so dose the portion with the clips on it

and you need to re grease that nss got to autozone and they have the little packets you need an eletrical grease its like a dollar or 2
whats wrong with your xj any who or you just doing some maintence?
