Just wanted to follow up for those with this issue. I had a churning, cyclic type noise from the rearend on my 2000 Cherokee, only when letting off the gas. I finally brought it to the dealer, and they found the carrier bearings were spent. Long story short, all the bearings in the rear diff (it's a dana 35 posi) were shot. They replaced them, and cleaned and readjusted everything. It's now quiet as a churchmouse. Thanks to Lambert Jeep in claremont,nh they did a great job and know their stuff.....highly recommended

Yep. My K5 Blazer started that one time. I noticed when I'd let up on the pedal I'd get a funny noise. Pulled the cover off and the carrier bearing on the left side was tore up pretty pad.
I replaced all of them due to the amount of metal that was in the oil. No issues after that. Put another 100,000 miles on it before the rust finally got it.
