Hello and thanks in advance for your help!

I have a 95 Cherokee Country with the 4.0. I had been having intermittent starting problems. Finally yesterday it would not start at all. I isolated the problem to the NSS(using this site). I took it apart cleaned and put it back together and it started and ran great. Now 24 hours later it will not shift out of first gear automatically or manually. Could I have damaged the NSS or any other solutions. I read about a TCU fuse but can not figure out where it is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

Check posts from-excess650- he has made about 100 posts about no shifts, late shifts, and how to check all the players in the game--TCU-TPS-NSS. He also has a schematic that u can ask him for on all the electronic components of the AW4. Hope this helps til others chime in. I know more about all the interior hard parts and never had to do the task of checking all these things.

 

Thanks I will do that. One other piece of info...It is not throwing out any codes at all. Not sure if that is pertinent.

 

Hello members--I have a 93 xj and am wanting to change the fluids in the diffs-transfer case and manual tranny--the diffs are going to be 75w90 but how can you tell which tranny and transfer case you have? I don't want to rely on what comes out of them in case the previous owner used the wrong stuff--any help greatly appreciated..............

 

manual trans takes 75w-90 and transfer case takes Dexron/Mercon

There are tags on the side of the trans and rear of transfer case.

 

The fuse for the TCU should be a 10 amp mini in the power distribution box under the hood.

Thanks Excess650! I pulled it out and now I can at least shift it manually. Does that mean it probably is the TCU or should I be looking at other things?

sounds like your tps to me. if u pull the fuse and are able to shift manually, the problem is electrical. i've had my jeep for about 4 months and have already had to replace the tps twice for this same problem

 

Is that hard to get to and change? Still learning as i go on this vehicle.

 

tps is on the throttle body with a couple of torx screws and an electrical connector, so a quick, easy change

 

found it. Awesome thanks for the help. Two more quick questions before I buy a new one.

1. My wife just told me that the positive battery cable came off yesterday when she was driving. Could this have any effect? Maybe I need to reset the computer?

2. Will it hurt anything to drive it with the fuse out and just manually shifting it?

Tighten the battery cable!

You can shift manually, but you'll only have 1, 3 and OD for forward gears. The electronics send voltage to the solenoids to shift up and down when using 3 or D.

 

Thanks. I immediately went out and did that when she told me about it...Do you think a computer reset could help?
