Default Cherokee Transmission wont shift after tcase swap

I have a 1992 Bone stock jeep xj with the 4.0 and the aw4 automatic transmission and a np231 tcase. I have recently did a transfer case swap in because the NP231 it had it in it blew apart so i swapped a NP231 out of a 98 XJ on to my 92 and it runs and drives but the transmission will not shift out of first gear it does not slip at all. I had to switch the speedometer gear plugs so I could have a speedometer because the plug on the 98 is different than the 92 and the 92 wiring harness had 2 plugs on it ,one being the speedometer plug and one being a 2 prong plug but I font know what that is but I still took the 2 prog plug and plugged into the transfer and discovered that it was in a different place than my 92 and it has a Y split and one end went into the transmission and one end had been broken and I dont know where it would connect to .could the broken wire be my problem with the transmission not shifting out of low gear? also when i shift the 4x4 the light on the dash does not turn on and when i put it in 4 Low nothing happens(that could also be me not knowing how to work the 4x4 in an automatic). If anyone knew what I could do and give me advice that would be much appreciated thank you so much.

Nope. I just Slap Shift it. I start it in low gear and when I get rolling I switch it to drive. it still runs and drives strong. 503,000 miles strong.

you should have the speedo and the 4x4 indicator as the only wires, if i remember right. its been over 10 years so hopefully someone will come verify but that's all i remember down there

Sounds like no power to the TCM if you're shifting manually, btw. I think a 92 still has the fuse in the harness by the TCM.
