Default tcase swap

aight so here's my question: will a NP242 out of a 92 XJ 4.0 non vac disconnect swap to a 90 non HO XJ with a NP231 and vac disconnect?
need help guys we did this swap already on my cousins 90 XJ and it won't take ANY gear (trans). I manually shift the 242 but it won't engage any gear at all in 2wd 4HI or 4LO...thanks for the help

no I didn't (i didn't buy it just put it in for him). so it won't work will it? He still has the old 231 that has the original shafts and what not..I'm not afraid of taking the tcase apart and changing the shafts if they will change out and the shaft from the 231 will work in the 242
