Make that, "yes'm" ...
YES'M!
I'm really suckin' at observing important distinctions this week, aren't I?
This is a tolerant and patient bunch here. Glad I signed up and posted.

The D35 would likely be OK for me, not going over 235/75/15s. I do worry a little about the deep snow because I work my 8.25 hard in it. My wife is in a wheel chair and I HAVE to get through stuff sometimes. Once I am so far into it, there's only one way out and it has to be all three of us at once, her me and the Jeep. If something breaks, we can't get out and walk and she can't "camp" there u ntil someone comes to get us - because there IS no one to come get us. I may talk myself into looking for another axle yet.

Yes, no swaps. Saw one just before that which was patched together with all the crap left from a couple builds from the way it looked though.

No ABS,.... unless they hid the module under the dash and it doesn't work. I forgot to warn the salesman before I decided to see if it had ABS while on a test drive. He didn't ask but I could tell he wanted to get off the lot for a few so I invited him along.
Leather seats can be slippery.

Naw ... just messing with you. There's no way could you guess I'm female by anything I've posted here.

I like how a reliable 4x4 is absolutely essential for you and you decided that an XJ is the one. Stationwagons rule . My leather seats have never been slippery ... cold in winter, hot in summer - but all eliminated (and protected) with decent seat covers.

The Turdy-five does have a bad rep on forums, but I never started mistrusting mine until I read about it on a forum - and I wheeled it for a few years before the swap. But eventually paranoia made me have the swap done, not any failure of the axle. That said, if you can't afford to risk failure, then a swap is in yer future!

If you drive it sane and don't wheel it the D35 should be fine for a very very long time.

Now if you go for bigger tires and like to go offroad, I would say ditch that axle ASAP. :-)

Well, that might be a problem then. I have made many emergency runs in all driving conditions which were literal life or death situations where all I cared about was getting there, whether the Jeep lived to make another run or not.

I love that - "Station Wagon." Station Wagons are cool - VERY cool, and one with all that wonderful stuff underneath is euphoria to me. Having an I6 under the hood is perfect. I have always loved and driven inlines - never bought a V8 myself.

My choice of the Cherokee is merit-based, not sentimentalism, although I am sentimental about it. I have relied on it to carry us through some ugly emergencies in all sorts of weather and driving conditions. Had I been driving a lesser vehicle in any one of several emergency situations, my Wife would not be here. When the Subaru Forester was totaled (mini-van doing 50 in a 25), the replacement was the '01. That Forester was pretty amazing itself, but when we stacked up all the "what-ifs," the primary vehicle of this household is a Cherokee, period. Yes, the XJ is a "fun" vehicle too, but I HAVE to have one.

Sorry to be so long-winded.

@Kimjeep, the reason the Jeep Cherokee is so hard to 'kill off' is because of owners like us on this forum with extremely deep pockets. ; )
