Cherokee keeps dying just replaced the alternator

Hi,
i have a 94 jeep cherokee 5 speed, i just replaced the alternator because while i was driving i would loose power and my car would stall out. it would not start back up again. i hear the starter trying to turn the car over but it doesnt work. can someone help me with why its not starting?

Consider the wiring going to the ignition...I had to fix wiring on mine cause when I turned a particular way my wires would pinch in my column and the jeep would shut off.

in the steering colum itself? or down towards the starter region?

Mine was actually in the steering column..when I went to tighten down my column I pulled some extra slack up the column and it hasnt died since

Could also be a fuel pump..many options

when i replaced the alternator i also charged my battery, could it be that maybe its not holding enough charge?

would a dead battery really shut the car off while driving?

Honestly i don't think so...I believe you can take the negative cable off while the jeep is running and that will provide some idea

my friend just told me the same exact thing happened in his lancer evo, he has it in a shop right now. im not sure but do the XJ's have crank positioning sensors? he replaced his but his car wouldnt start either, just kept sounding like it wanted to start like mine

Yes they do. That may be my issue with no start.

Have you checked for codes? That's easier & cheaper than throwing parts at it.

If its the crank sensor, it will run on the last paramaters till you shut it off. Then it wont start......if your battery is bad, totally shot, it may not run....I have seen this many times before....the charging system is trying to charge, leaving not enough current to run the vehicle. I'm not saying that this is the rule....but there's always exceptions......and I've seen them...
