Default Cherokee Instrument Cluster Swap?

I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee and I was wondering if I can switch out my instrument cluster that just has the speedometer, fuel gauge, and basic warning lights for one of the ones with RPM, oil pressure, and temp gauges. If so, is there a lot involved or is it just a matter of unplugging the old one and plugging the new one in? Thanks in advance.

Use the "search" feature in the forum! There are a couple of great write-up's on here for that. I did my gauge cluster swap in about 30 minutes. I have a '94 XJ, went with the '96 XJ cluster.

Good Luck,

J

When you say oil pressure switch do you mean the guage itself, the sending unit, or something entirely different? Thanks for the answer.

I believe it is the sending unit.

Also, Im not sure when the HOs were introduced, but you will need to make sure you find a cluster with the same engine as yours. The back of the HO clusters are white and the regular ones are light blue. It makes a difference.

Just did this a few weeks ago to a 94, got the cluster from a 93 at the JY. You will need to replace both the temp and oil pressure sending units on the motor.

I happen to still have the boxes from the new senders from advance, part numbers are S4133 for the oil pressure and WT430 for the temp, $26 and $10 respectively.

Are you sure? A freind of mine is of the opinion that they would be the same due to how they were all basically made the same way except for a few minor details. I'm not sure. Thanks.

I've done my research and I agree about switching the sending units. Forgive me for doubting. The part numbers helped alot. Thanks so much for listing them. I'm going to pick them up tomorrow.

Default istrument panel

I just swapped out the instrument panel on my 89' 4.0 I didn't have to change anything. The hardest part was unhooking the speedo cable. But now I have a tach!

This may be a stupid question but I haven’t heard anyone mention it but when I get a new instrument panel is there a way to still have it read the correct amount of miles on the odometer or is that just something I live with?
Thanks

I think the easiest way is to make a note of the change on your title (if you live in a title state). Depending on what year your gauges are (digital or mechanical) will determine how the odometer will be reset. A good collision center should be able to advise you how yours could be done or google it.

I just live with it since my XJ already had an "inaccurate odo" title due to an engine swap.
A body shop or speed shop can set the cluster if it's something that's important to you.
