Default cherokee got louder al of a sudden??

i was at a stop then i sped up really fast and then i noticed i could hear the engine a lot more . almost like i have no muffler now. it is still attached and im not sure what could cause this. anyone ever have this problem? everything seems fine , just louder, just would like to see if it is something serious

You might have blown out some internals on the muffler. It can rust internally, and if something inside gave way, it will get louder.

It's probably time to replace it.

Could also be a rusted or broken pipe. Climb under it with your jeep running, and see where the extra noise is coming from, should be pretty easy to find.....RR

Check the exhaust header at the collectors, famous for cracking there, also check your engine mounts while your in there

you could also hold a wet towel over the tailpipe to plug it up and you should hear the hissing coming from any leaks in the system.

When you first start the jeep and it's cold, cover the tail pipe and where white exhaust comes out, that's where your leak is.
