Default Cherokee dead after door speaker wire splice HELP!

Hi folks, I have the common door speaker problem, which amounts to disconnected/broken wires going to the speakers. I followed the procedure I saw on youtube, which involved taking the door panel off. I found the right wires on the driver side, and cut them, then spliced in new wiring. My splice involved soldering. I then turned the key and there is nothing happening electrically, not even a buzzing. What did I do wrong here, and how do I get back in operation? I did not disconnect the battery before working on this, was that a mistake? Is there a fuse I should check? Please help, and many thanks!

Andy

Check your battery for voltage, you held the door open, your dome lights are on when the doors are open.

This. Your battery is probably just dead from the lights. You have to screa something up really bad to hurt anything fixing speaker wires.

Really, 1.37V??? Sounds like you're due for a new battery.
