dear friend,
my cherokee 4.0 liter, 4WD 2001 is not starting properly, i checked with mechanic and he told ur ECM problem because fuel not coming initially and battery also not charging?
is there battery is charging by ECM? cause i changed one alternator but not used, he told one wire coming hrough computer which is charging to battery? is it possible to use ECM of other model jeep to cherokee2001 ?
my ECM part number is 56041804AA.
i apperciate any help regarding this.

thanx for reply,
but some guy told me it is regulated by ECM but regulator is inside the alternator, ECM function to just give the input to alternator...........what it means IIRC
actually i am in middleeast ( qatar ), can i use 2000 model ECM to my cherokee?
is it true that my jeep not starting due to ECM also, Only cranking but not starting, mechanic told me Fuel not coming through computer initially.
come on guys help me

He's wrong. The PCM (same thing as an ECM) contains the voltage regulator.
IIRC means If I Remember Correctly
I'm not sure what your mechanic is trying to tell you but the PCM turns on the fuel pump for only 5 seconds during engine start.
If the engine is cranking (turning over) and not starting it could be a fuel system problem. Some of the things you need to check are:
Fuel Pressure at the fuel rail.
If there's no pressure it could be the pump or the fuel pump relay, or perhaps a fuse.
If there is good pressure at the rail (49 +/- 5 PSI) then you need to look at the ignition system.
Is there spark at all of the plugs?
Are the coil packs good?
Have you tested the Crankshaft Position Sensor?

still i confused alternator is regulated by ECM or it having self regulation?
a lot of mechanic here in gulf dont know this and telling for alternator not required computer to regulate the alternator. when i check there workshop they cannot do it.
ne way my fuel pump is new but how to check the pressure on it ?, it is sometime starting and sometime not starting, i dont know what problem, please someone clarify me

You need to get a scanner and read the error codes. i can't help without that information.
No you cannot modify the alternator. The voltage regulator is built into the ECM and cannot be bypassed or modified.
Try to be a little patient. We all have jobs and other commitments that are more important than this forum. We are willing to help as time permits.
