Default Check engine light after programming keyless remote

Bought a 01 cherokee sport about 2 weeks ago. Everything has been great but when i bought it, the car came with simply one key and no keyless remote. I know most of these have a keyless remote so i checked the build list and sure enough it does have a keyless unit installed.

So i go to a dealer that sells and programs keyless transmitters.... Its done within 5 minutes and then when i start up the car the check engine light comes on! They said that programming the keyless remote couldnt have caused this but it wasnt on before and right after it is. I work as an accountant for an automotive shop and will have the techs run the code but what could have caused this?

The code will tell you whats wrong.

And, like you were told, the remote most likely has nothing to do with it. Just coincidence.

What did they charge you to program the remote? I need to get this done too.

Hey csilva69.

You could save $65..
Follow instructions and program yourself.
Here : http://programkeyfob.com/

If you are facing CEL light that means something wrong.
Check here why engine light is on?
