I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and my check engine light keeps coming on...the code is a evap leak (large)....I've checked my gas cap and vacuum hoses and they all seem good.(no cracks or dry rot) sometimes i can smell gas but i do not know where it is coming from... There is a leak detection pump on the right side of the engine bay and sometimes it makes a squeak noise. does anyone have any suggestions?

 

To check that cap, did you take it in and have them check it on a machine?

 

Check the carbon evaporative cannister, the associated hoses, and the vacumm reservoir behind the bumper + the associated hoses.
