Default check engine code 45?

So I have a 1997 cherokee sport. and I tried the push odometer button, turn the key on, release the button trick to get my code, I Do get a nice light and needles show, but no code after I see all the numbers on the odometer...

So I also tried the turn the key on and off 4 time then I get code on my odometer i get :

12 : battery disconnected, no big deal...

45 : only thing I can find about this one is turbo related... I didn't know my jeep was turbo.... so anybody have any clue about that code?

47 : battery under voltage... no big deal it is fine now, its probably from when I lost the belt my battery might have run low a little, but now its fine

and 55 : end of code...

the things is I read that 96 and up were obdII but i get obdI code from the look of it...

Am I just not doing this properly or what?

The codes are listed here.>-> Jeep Horizons :: View topic - Jeep Computer codes (OBDI & OBDII)
I don't understand the code 45 issue either. Anyone have any input?

Yours is ODBII you can't be getting just a 45 code...Sorry but that is an ODBI code. You have ODBII so you need to go down to the local parts house and have them hook up a scanner. Cause that code just can't be correct. In 96 XJ's went to ODBII.

I'm glad you cleared that up, because I thought I was losing my mind over this.

I would still drop by a parts store and have them scan it. It's free and will tell you if you have an issue. Ignoring it could lead to bigger issues. Never ignore a check engine light even if it goes off.

X2. Even when the light goes out it still sets a fault code that needs to be addressed. Kinda' like a toothache. Just because it stops hurting doesn't mean the problem is gone. It's still there, and getting worse. Just waiting to erupt at the worst possible time.

Default code 45

I'm also getting a code 45. Someone told me it could be the NSS or OD solenoid. I have noticed that od wasn't kickin in, but I guess it also could be a dirty NSS because my reverse lights don't come on. Any guesses?

Smile NSS

I fixed my problem with adjusting the NSS. Now I have backup lights and od shifts fine. I would check your NSS. Just loosen the 12mm bolt at the top and make sure your lower bolt is straight up and down, you then turn the switch clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust. Do this while in neutral and with parking brake on. When you adjust it retighten and try to start in park and neutral, if that works check your reverse lights and make sure they work ( it helps to have someone watch when your shifting) You will notice your light on the dash will go out also. It took me to adjustments to get it perfect, if that fails pull out the NSS take it apart and clean it with electric switch cleaner, put sum dielectric grease back on and put it together. Hope this helps!
