I am having an ongoing problem that I have not been able resolved with my Jeep. It's a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo.It had a locked up alt........ I have a good 95 Cherokee parts jeep and I pulled a working alt of. I just parked the parts Jeep a couple weeks ago.I found out this code means an open or shorted condition in the generator field control circuit.Does anyone know what area I need to look into to correct this problem. I have traced the alt wire harness and have found no breaks. My Jeep isnt charging according to to the gauge and a multimeter. I have read it could be a bad cell in the battery or even computer problems.I am trying to narrow my search and I am unsure exactly what that code even means. I dont know much about this kinda stuff. Any help or advice where to look would be greatly appreciated.

 

The brushes in the alternator are worn out, get a new alternator.

 

You were correct. My alt failed because I tightened the hot lead down to tight and messed up the leads on the inside. Learned a valuable lesson from this.................
