98 4.0

I am not trying to get some crazy sound, and i am not trying to get some tinny piece of garbage.

At this point, anything is better than my current one, with the two huge rusted out holes that it has... so i need a replacement.

Im not trying to spend anywhere close to a lot of money on a muffler.

Rock auto has lots of Walkers

SoundFX is super cheap (25), Quiet flow is a bit more (60)

Are either one of these any good? Hows the sound?

Some people don't like the sound but it was cheap. I got a Thrush glasspack at AZ when my stock muffler bit the dust. Cost my $19-something+tax.

Thrush fully welded muffler sounds like a flowmaster at half the cost.

I used the walker ultra flo welded. It is a great muffler, very well constructed. The oal for a 98 xj is 25". I used walker # 17217 which is 19" oal. It is half the price as the walker # 17512 which is the direct replacement. I saved 50$ and just added 6" of pipe. Great quality and a great sound! Has a low rumble at idle and throaty tone at higher rpm. But its really up to you. Rock auto is a great place for info!

Thrush turbo is a horrible muffler, unless you like drone and buzzing. Either of the Walkers is good, the Fx is the louder of the two.

I used the Walker Fx from Rock Auto, plus their clamps and hangers. Everything was good.

Old saying ya get what ya pay for. Cheap just eliminate the muffler and pipe it together. Good one that cost money but last.

I replaced my stock muffler with a Thrush Welded from AutoZone,It was like 50$ bucks if i remember right.I have had it on for about 2 years now and it still looks like new and its not real loud but has a low rpm drone and seems to be a well built muffler, good and thick so it should last for many more years.

I just put a Thrush welded on mine last week. Sounds good not loud at all when a tail pipe is connected. It's a little louder and more drone without one. Well built for $40.

I guess a "universal" is the same as original, (not positive though) Oval, 8" wide, 4" tall, 18 inches long, 24" total. 2" pipe, centered on the front, off center out the rear. As low as 29$ but All I could find was $40.

The pipe is not really 2" though, one end was larger and the other smaller. One end slid in sloppy making welding tougher. (I welded part way, then heated and hammered some to bring it in closer to finish). The other end was identical diameter, I found and cut a 2" "sleeve" Slid/welded that on the muffler out of the Jeep, then stuck her in and finished.

So $40, some gas, and not even a whole six-pack and she's done

So BSMD2005 pointed out the sale walker is running, and man, talk about the deal of a lifetime.

Walker quiet flow SS, pay 70 bucks for it after shipping, get a $50 visa gift card in return, spend that on the shocks I was gonna buy anyway...

So Walker quiet flow SS for less than $20 seems the route I wanna go.

Anybody have any experience with this muffler?
