changing U-joints on front axle?

can you replace the u-joints without pulling the axles out of the diff?

I dont know. never tired. I dont think there is enough room to bang them out and press new ones in. its so easy just pulling the axles out and squeezing it into the vise.

i wouldnt bother trying that. just pull the shaft out its easier that way

well, I'm half way done replacing the u-joints. just waiting for my wife to return with the new ones. I guess I didn't think about it enough when I posted this thread.I was thinking I had to open up the diff cover and pull C clips to remove the axles. so far the hardest part of the job was getting the wheel bearings off the spindles.

no, I pulled the axles.

Supposedly you can do it still in the axle. But my hands are fat enough that I would never try to...
