I thought servicing my tranny fixed the problem with the tranny not downshifting and starting off in a high gear. but now the problems back again. I talked to a local shop, they said the tranny is shot. I remember reading about the solonoids going bad in a thread in here someplace. has anyone changed them out? if so how hard is it. I'm a decent mechanic but aside from swapping out and servicing I have no experiance with automatic transmissions. if the tranny in my Jeep is bad I'll but a reman. and swap it out. if a solonoid is the fix it's got to be cheaper then a rebuilt so I'd like to try it.
a bit of info on my jeep; 194,000 miles, problem started about 4000 miles ago I serviced the tranny. the old fluid was dirty but didn't smell burned. after the service it shifted good until a week ago.I checked the fluid, it still looks clean and smells good. could the trans really be shot?
