Default Changing only lower ball joint?

I have a quick question. Is it possible to change just the lower ball joint on a '95 XJ without having to remove the top one as well. (Note: Yes I know it's smarter to change them both but I have the wrong top one and the Jeep is torn apart down to the point of pressing the ball joints out and rain is in the forecast) I have 2 of the basic ball joint press kits but I tried all sorts of combinations and can't seem to find one that will allow pressing the lower one down with the top one still there. Any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Here is the press kit I have. I have 2 of these so plenty of adapters.

Hmmmm. /scratching head/

I don't really think so, unless you can somehow flip the press over.....

Maybe someone has figured out a way to do it, but I'm not seeing it at the moment....

I have always had to put the threaded rod up through the hole for the top ball joint. You may be able to modify a press to have a stubby threaded rod but that would be a lot of work. I'd put it back together, get the right top ball joint and then do them both. Doesn't seem worth the hassle of trying to just fo the bottom. you'll have to tear it all down again anyway for the top.

Pick one:

1. remove the upper balljoint.
2. use an air hammer on the lower balljoint.
3. modify the press.
