Default Changed pinion and transfer case seals, now binding when turning in 4wd

Please help!!! I have a 1995 XJ 5spd. I just changed my front D30 pinion seal and both 231 transfer case seals. I topped off the fluid and drove it around to check for issues. Everything seemed fine until I drove it in 4hi and 4lo. Driving straight it is okay, but when I go to make a turn it seems to be binding up. The steering wheel has tension and kinda pulls, so I guess binding up is the best description I can think of.

I am afraid that I did not install something right. The shaft on the transfer case did turn when I was taking to nut off and was thinking that maybe it is in a different position than originally . I don't know if that would make a difference.

I also did just changed the power steering pump and pulley in case that could be the problem. I don't think that is the problem since it acts normal in 2wd when turning. Just thought I would mention that also.

Thanks,
John

It's supposed to bind in turns when in either 4x4 high or low. That's how you can tell if your four wheel drive is working. If it doesn't bind, then something is wrong. Read the owners manual if in doubt!

yeah, if its not full time 4X4 you will get binding around corners, unless you are in mud and snow. Not good to drive in 4X4 if on a hard service.

O, ok. I have never driven it in 4wd on the dry pavement so I guess that explains why I have never experienced that before. I wanted to test it out since I did the seal replacements and make sure things were working properly before I had to use 4wd. Now that you guys mention that I do remember hearing that.

Thank you very much for the replies as I feel a lot better now.
