Hello, I recently had a driveline issue because the tabs on the rear yoke that hold the caps on the u joint in place are worn down. I went to pull the yoke off, but couldn't seem to get it off. I am assuming that it's just the big center bolt, but I couldn't get it to budge, even with a huge breaker bar. I was wondering if maybe there is something I don't know or I may just need to go to work with an impact. If somebody could let me know I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Matt

You need to find the torque specs for that big nut. IIRC they are very tight. Also there is a seal behind it that should be replaced, there is a bearing to. You might as well change them while your in there.

if you don't have a impact like me I did it last year a rigged up way, but it worked out great. I put the e-brake on and had it in 4hi and in park. I put the socket on a 1/2 ratchet put it in place on the pinion and used a floor jack to lift up on the end of the ratchet from the drivers side. It came right off, I struggled for a 1/2 hour before that with a short pipe for a cheater.

as for me i put a huge pipe wrench on the yoke to keep it from spinning and used a nice cheater bar i have to break the pinion nut loose

Awesome, thank you. I couldn't get it undone with just a cheater bar. The jeep is originally from MN so it's pretty rusty. The jack idea seems great. I will try that. I already have the seal and stuff, it was leaking anyways. Appreciate the help.

I thought that it was stopping it from moving with the front axle, the car was on the ground with the car in 4hi, maybe it doesnt work if the rear driveshaft is out? I was moving the car with the e-brake on, till I put it in 4x4. Maybe it was a coincidence?
