right, but there is still vacuum. if there wasnt vacuum, why doesnt a vacuum leak whistle? and why isnt this filter (my pic) not covered in oil?

mind you, im not trying to come off as a dick. im trying to understand something my reasoning says is wrong (but if i am wrong, consider myself "learned" lol)
you must not have a lot off blow by to create a mess thats a good sign, not saying people dont do it but the hose is connected to help releave pressure .

the small hole has the same effect as the ball keeping oil from being sucked thru it

So does the rear hose coming out of the valve cover tie into the exhaust?

No. The line that comes out the rear of the valve cover goes to the intake manifold. Like i said earlier, the ccv consists of a hose going from the top of the airbox to the front of the valve cover. Then towards the rear of the head, a line goes from there to the intake manifold.

I have a cold air intake on mine and I really don't think there is enough negative vacuum in the intake pipe to help draw gases out any more than the engine pushes it out.

when the engine is brought of idle the suction from the throttle body draws it out thru the front hose in the valve cover thru your cold air intake tube

Yes I get that that is how it works but I really don't think there is enough suction on the little hose to actually draw it out enough. Just saying its fine just putting a filter on the front valve.
