You basicly need an antenna with a good ground, good quality coax cable to the radio, a clean DC powr source, (I ran mine directly from the battery positive terminal.) If you have engine noise on your radio you might want an inline RF filter. Good solid ground points for the power. And a solid mounting point for the unit. If you have all that you should be good to go.

Dont forget to tune the antenna, or youll be buying a new radio pretty soon.

A word on the electrical connection. If you wire positive and negative directly to the battery, BOTH leads should be fused. Do it this way in case you lose your primary ground connection… if the CB is wired directly to the battery negative post, the CB and its wiring will be the new ground path.

Either way, I wouldn’t wire it directly to battery negative because you could get a ground loop. Much preferable to ground it to body as close to the radio as possible.

If you have a CB shop do the install, they’ll probably tune the antenna for you. The correct way to do it is connect the SWR meter at the antenna – not at the radio. Connecting the meter at the radio is likely to give a false 1:1 match due to coax losses. This is not bad for the radio per se, but the antenna won’t be radiating as well as it could.

For easy installation of the power (red) wire, do the following: Locate the fuse for your vehicle's radio head unit on the fusebox under the dash. Remove that fuse. Carefully wrap a a small length of the wire around the fuse once and slowly insert the fuse back into its original slot. For the ground, find a clean, rust-free bolt or screw to wrap a short section of the ground wire (black) around a retighten the bolt. When you use the radio fuse for power, power to your CB will turn on and off with the ignition. Good way to save your battery in case you forget to turn off the CB. I'm not sure if this will cause any interferance with your music, though, because I don't have a radio in my XJ.

As for mounting location of the CB unit, you have a few options. Some mount it on the side of the console, others mount it onto the dash, and yet others mount it to the ceiling some how. I chose to mount mine under the dash.
