it mounts to a bracket where the down pipe is via 4 nuts/bolts. I can't remember if that square piece is on the down pipe or the XJ but that's where it mounts.

My 95's original cat wasn't bolted on, it slipped over the downpipe and was held on by a clamp. I removed the clamp and cut the old cat off with a sawzall. After running without it till my new one came, I got my magnaflow from Summit. The inlet/outlet diameter should be 2 1/4 in and 2 1/4 out on your factory exhaust.

IMHO running the new cat with your choice of performance muffler behind that, then running the tailpipe all the way out the rear of the truck is gonna get you the best overall sound, without being super loud with tons of resonance in the cab.

i didnt have a cat on mine wen i bought it and it sounds nice...my check engine light isnt on tho...only problem is that the guy before me cut off the cat and put a bent pipe so my exhaust ends under my xj infront of my rear axle and i get exhaust fumes inside when i stop at redlights

You'll want to change this as you will not only make your rig legal but have a boost in power as well. With absolutely no back pressure the 4.0 motor is starved for low end power. Bite the built and get it fixed.

back pressure, I've ripped my entire exhuast off and ran it with no exhuast, cat only, flowmaster 44 only, and now it is a cat with flowmaster 44. The best performance was an ome cat only with no muffler. However, it's illegal to not run a cat. The power difference is very noticeable and you will be happy with the power increase and gas millage when you change your exhuast system to add some back pressure. Also it will save wear and tear on your motor as it is **** to premature engine failure when a motor isn't running with efficient back pressure.

Edit- you must have misread my first post. I said low end power, in essence the amount of torque your motor makes at lower rpms. Which is what you need when off roading. Unless you keep your rig running at 3,000+ rpms down the trails constantly.

Cat. For what the flow numbers are showing for one without, there's just as many to prove the same with one. Plus it's like WAY illegal not to have one.

Don't mean to derail the subject but what about beadlocks they are not DOT approved.
Some are now street legal.(beadlocks)

As for the cat I think that you should always have one because it converts harmful gasses to harmless ones and is thus better for the enviroment and future generations. Think about your grandchildren and their grandchildren. Don't place yourself in the "ME" generation. Think of the future.
