Cat converter
What happens if you unplug the senser on the catalytic converter. Do alarms, bells and whistles go off or is there just a light that goes off?

Actually, it says "what happens if..."
So
If he only wants to know what warning will occur, the question should be "what warnings will happen if..."
Later.

it would run fine, the 02 sensor he is describing only sets off a check engine light and the code will read something about catylitic efficiency.
why is this question being asked in the first place?

That's what I thought but my junk is so old and I haven't worked on a newer one for awhile so I thought that maybe WJC was right. Shoulda stood my ground. Thanks KTM

So my engine wont run crappy like that one dude said? it will just say check engine. Is there a way to get that light to turn off without reconnecting it?

Okay new here and this is the main reason i joined... My Cherokee is no cats anymore and it is sputtering just a tad when i speed up everything else seems fine and i am hoping this is causing my problem..
My question is what simulator has been proven to work? I am skeptical of ebay products and that's all i have found... Anyone have links to quality simulators?
Help would be great!

The downstream O2 sensor (after the cat) on our '98 XJ has been unscrewed and unplugged for 3 mos now. About the 3rd or 4th day the sensor was disconnected the check engine light came on. It still runs perfect.....zero, zip, nada performance issues even though the check engine light is on. Clear the code and the CEL will remain off another 3-4 days before reappearing. It's the upstream O2 sensor (before the cat) that reads rich/lean fuel mixture. With no downstream sensor and a 180F t-stat our XJ gets mid-teens mpg city (stop-n-go <40mph) and low 20's mpg highway (>65mph). Just run's like a top.
