How reliable would it be if I sleeve the block for a four inch piston and built a 5.0 stroker?

I've heard that the cylinder walls are really thin when bored over that big. I would just do a 4.7 IMO.

Well the machine shop said they could sleeve it so if I have to sleeve it why not go all the way right? The only thing is I don't want it to crap out in like 50k miles and be building another motor just don't know what to do

The only times I've seen 5.0's being built is for prerunners, jeepspeed, those sort of applications. And I would imagine they rebuild frequently.

If you've got the money, then go for it.

IMO, i would only go up to a 4.7, but that's just my opinion. RPM Machine has a 4.5 kit for $1300 and ive heard good things about it. Thinkin about doing it while ive got my motor out.

In either case im kinda afraid of sleeping it but from all the research I've done you have to sleeve it to go with a 5.0 stroker but I'm not sure of the reliability of sleeping it especially with the hole I have in the cylinder being in the water jacket

Oh ****, yeah I forgot about that. I would definitely NOT stroke it like that, you'll probably have the same thing happen pretty quickly. Sleeve it and keep it stock, or get a new block and stroke it. I would just toss the block period.

91-95 are strong blocks as well the 96 to 01 blocks have a girdle for extra support. If you find a 91-95 block you can source a girdle and use washers to clear it under the increased stroked crank. Jeepstrokers.com have all sorts of info on it.

Hell if you find a 91-95 engine use the head too. It has the best flow. The intake manifold you want is the 99+ it also has the best flow cause jeep used it to counteract the stricter emissions crap they were forced to change to.

Will a 318 bolt to my aw4? It seems I can find them all day long but can't find a 4.0 block to save my life lol

A 318 will not bolt up to an AW4.

Thinking of selling my jeep I'm kinda tired of messing with it and getting nowhere. It's a 97 sport 163xxx miles 4.0 aw4 4 door everything is good minus the engine block if anyone is interested in making an offer

Did you try WANTED on Craig's list? Free and maybe worth a shot. Here I'm smack between 3 towns, so its usually 80 miles for me to look at anything....

Yeah most things I find is complete motors for 93 and down and I can't use nothing but the block for my 97 and it's 100+ miles just to look at it
