Default Cap, rotor and wire recommendations

I am going to do a little tune up and am wondering what I should get for my 90. I've seen this question asked on the forum, but they haven't been for my year XJ. I was looking at this cap and rotor: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G5247/

and I haven't started looking at wires yet. But would that cap/rotor kit be good? Should I just go to my local O'Reilly's and get them or what?

those parts are the same as your local parts store, they will just take longer to get into your hand.

Quadratec sells a kit with the Accel plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I have heard that you should really use the Champion factory plugs. But the kit was cheaper than I could get just cap, rotor and wires from my FLAPS so I bought that, and then got the Champions from NAPA. Working great so far (just a couple hundred miles on it) but the wires don't fit the stock loom, a couple of them are too short. Cap is a quality looking piece with brass terminals. I put some dielectric on the terminals and plug ends too to keep the boots from sticking and the corrosion away.

I just did a quick search on Summit for spark plug wires for your year and got 3 pages of results. You should upgrade to 8 mm wires. You could even go bigger (saw that there was even 10 mm wires that were offered). And yes, bigger is better in this case.

That's actually EXACTLY what I did too. It's really cheap when compared to buying everything individually and piecing it together. I would say do this. And I've actually heard of people using the Accel plugs in the kit (they are copper as well) and having good results.

And you don't need a loom anyways. The kit comes with clips but I chose not to do use them.

Edit: Ah, pooey. I didn't see what year your XJ was. Accel doesn't make a tune up kit for a '90. So it looks like you should piece it all together. You just want a cap with brass terminals and quality wires (I hear NAPA makes good stuff). As for the rotor, it honestly doesn't matter too much, just a new one will suffice.

No this stuff isn't in stock at my local shop, it is more expensive, and I'm not in a hurry.

Plus they'll probably cost more at your local parts store. I'd say just order em online if you haven't already

Just my $0.02. I don't much care what brand my cap/rotor are as long as they have brass terminals. As for wires I really like Belden wires from Napa. However that's my preference and it seems your choice on parts was a good one.
