I have a 2001 Cherokee and whenever i put it in 4wheel drive and try to turn i get an awful grinding and clunking noise as well as an inability to turn the steering wheel, if you have any idea of what this could be i would love to find out whats wrong and get it fixed. ( nothing seems to be rubbing or bent)

Are you placing it in 4WD on a paved road? You are only supposed to engage it on a loose surface since it locks both front and rear axles together.

 

i was off road but maybe not on loose enough ground, thanks ill try putting it in 4 in real loose ground and see what happens

Separate the differential issue. Is it Any harder to turn sitting still if it is in 4wd?
