Default Can't het new high pressure return line into gear box!

I am trying to put in new High pressure and return lines for my Power Steering.
I can't get the high pressure line to screw into the gear box. It seems to catch the treads but as I get closer with tightening the I hear a "click" and it pops out.

Do any of you guys know how I can get these puppies in securely?
The High Pressure line I bought is Duralast #80290 and the Return Line is 80402
Do I have this right? Its a 2001 XJ

Is there an easier solution to this? I think I have read before of guys installing High pressure lines that have a different angle metal fitting that make it much easier for the install.

Do you have the old line so you can check the fitting size ?

With all that other "stuff" out of the way, you'd think it would be fairly easy.

When I did mine, I did have quite a bit of trouble getting it started. I had to use a crows foot on a few extensions.

Did you have the pump side connected when you tried? How far does it thread in before it pops out?

If you push the hose all the way in and then try to thread the nut, the bend in the metal hose may cause a misalignment. Try keeping the bead against the nut, then get the nut started. Once you are sure it's not cross-threaded, push the hose in to seat it, then tighten away.

Be extremely cautious with this

it is super easy to cross-thread, and the alloy is like butter

examine the male thread under magnification to make sure the bottom threads are not already trashed

If so, I was miraculously able to tidy up mine with a small triangular file

In my opinion, this is a case where you must get the thread started with fingers, not spanners, no matter how tempted

lateral pressure is exerted making it hard to line the fittings up, one twist of a spanner will damage the starting thread

It does not look like you have any female threads in the gearbox. I just put a pressure hose in my friends 98 and I did it with the return line still installed. getting it out took a while . back in took 15 min.One turn or so by hand Then an 18mm box wrench with a slot cut into it to fit the hard line through. Dint forget the little o-ring on the flare ends of both hoses under the nut

I have tried everything including everyones suggestions and it still won't go in. I have tired relentlessly and now am stuck with what to do at this point. Can I buy a different High Pressure Line that has a different angle fitting with a hose that is more "workable"? I was just reading a thread in this yesterday and can find it! Some dude used a different High Pressure line like this but I can no longer find the tread. It was a black line with yellow lettering and numbing going down it and had a different angle fitting.

Maybe go to the junkyard and just cut the line off of a used box, then bring it home and see if it will start in the hole with out all the line tension. That will at least let you see the angle of attack. Just sayin....
