Can't get transfer case to change range
Ok so I'm pretty new to cherokees. I bought an old cherokee 2.5 Litre (carburated, so I'm guessing '84) it was purely for going offroad so it didn't come with any papers whatsoever. And it didn't cost me a fortune. So problem one is the select-trac. It's somehow ignoring the lever to switch from 2WD to 4WD (I folowed the vacuum tubes and there seems to be messed with it) It stays 4WD, which isn't that big of a problem as I will be using it for off-roading only. But the next problem is changing the range. The lever isn't attached to anything (It broke off or something I figure). I then tried turning the 'bolt' it was supossed to be attached to by hand but I couldn't get it to move.
Any help or advice is appreciated !
(The forum look great btw )

There is linkage underneath that the lever should be connected to. you should start there. Have someone move the lever back and forth while you look below to see what it is and is not moving... and go from there. If you do get it functional and it will switch in to low range confirm if it is engaging the front diff... if not your Vacuum disconnect is not working (big surprise) at that point search the forum (or google) and find a writeup on fabbing a manual disco mod. good luck

Your best bet is to get new linkage and install it, in order to install it you will need to pull back the front carpet where the lever to the 4wd is and then unbolt everything. Afterwards you need to go underneath and reattach the linkage the same as you detached it from the junk yard jeep after you attach everything bolt it all together. If you have some more questions send me a personal message and i will help you out in more detail. GOOD LUCK

Is this the same linkage as other jeeps with let's say a 4.0 litre without the select-trac ? Because I can get my hands on one of those from a friend.
