Im struggling trying to find a replacement fuel rail for my XJ. Everything I'm finding online has a single port for the fuel line from the tank, but no return port like mine has. My XJ is a 91 Limited with the 4.0 HO. I couldn't even find a used one that looks like mine. Is there a way to delete the return line? Is this just a niche part? Has anyone ran into this and converted their Jeep to work with a different fuel pressure regulator to use the single port rails lile the newer Jeeps have? And insight is much appreciated!!
Have you looked on ebay? You need the return line. The later model years (96+ I think) have the regulator built in to the fuel pump assembly so only one line is needed.
So there is an oring inside the rail for the pressure regulator that isn't on the regulator itself. It looks to be a squared off "oring" or seal of sorts and I can't find a replacement. I had thought it maybe came with a new rail. So then I dove down the rabbit hole of replacing the rail and can't seem to find one. I had my regulator oring spring a leak so I had it out for repair and noticed that odd ball seal. I'll get a picture of this seal tomorrow. I want to replace it being that it's likely 34 years old (no record from previous owner of any maintenance) and looked slightly damaged. I didnt look at it closely when I had it out the first time
Where are you located? I think I have the rail and regulator from my old 92 somewhere in the attic. There are no seals built into the rail if I remember...its all metal You can have mine for shipping if I can find it
The o-rings come with the regulator, not the rail. Yours just happen to stay in the rail. Just like pulling injectors, sometimes the oring stays in the manifold. Just use a pic and pull it out.
I don't see a separate part number for the rings but if you can get it out in one piece, you may be able to match it. Otherwise replacement regulators are available on Rock Auto, local parts store, even Amazon.
Also, unless you're pulling gas through the vacuum line the regulator is probably fine. The o-rings aren't some special size and a cheap set of viton o-rings will probably have something that fits.
So sorry for the late reply! Had a super busy weekend.
So I got the regulator out again to swap it out. Those plastic spacer rings were both broken and I figured, what would it hurt to replace the regulator for a whopping $12.
I looked further into it and I think that "seal" is just a makeshift spacer that a previous owner put in. The bottom spacer ring is gone on the old regulator so they used that rubber ring instead ot buying new.
Above is the old regulator and that "seal". It stayed in the fuel rail when I took it out the first time so I thought it was part of the rail
