I have an issue with the Driver side front tire. The wear pattern is as if the tire is bouncing or skipping down the road instead of rolling. I have had it alligned twice, new shocks, balanced, rotated the bad tire to the back and now the new one is doing the same thing. Tire pressure is right at 35. This is only on the drivers side and I can hear it riding down the road. Any thoughts?

Just a though, never heard of anything like it but could the driveshaft or axelshaft (not sure about the english name) be a little bent and making some sort of unbalance?

Check that out on tire wear. I think what you are describing would be feathering but....I cant see it so just take a look on there. It also has some possible reasons on what can cause the certain wear patterns

If that does not help, then take some pics and post them up, someone will more than likely know something about it.

when they did the alignment did they adjust the camber, most shop wont? What size tire, Lift amount? Cupping or feathering caused by camber or tire over and under inflation or bad Ball joint and TREs and shocks. If the tire say 35lbs on the side and you put 35lbs in you are Over inflating. drop the pressure to 28-30 lbs.

It sounds like a failed shock on that corner. See the chart below.

The first time i had the alignment done i took it to sears based on a recomendation from a friend, mistake. 2nd time i took it to a 4x4 shop and they told me that the camber and toe was dead on. I have a pop on the drivers side sometime when i turn right and i'm thinking ball joint. could this be the cause for the tire wear? i run 245/75's with a 4" superlift.

If the tire wear matches anything that looks like that bad shock one....dont rule out shocks just because they are new.

MANY things fail out of the box brand new.....happened to me a few weeks ago on a 99 grand am I did struts on....was just a friendly reminder that new does not = 100% good.

You should also point out what wear pattern it is if youve seen one in pics that match!

need to look at what air pressure that tire is rated for cuz it's probably different than the stock ones.

thanks for the help. I will take it back to the shop. It scares me that it might be a bent axle shaft or housing.

One thing to consider is that Sears or Most shops will only set the alignment to Factory spec. If you are lifted these specs will be in correct when it comes to the camber. You can do the Job yourself in your driveway, easily. Heres a write, http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoAlignment.htm

I agree don't put all your trust in that new shock, If it looks like the forth tire it's most likely the shock, change your front shocks around and see what happens. And while you have them off check them out.

the wear pattern most closely resembles the "failed shock" pattern. Although is is a much more even pattern.

I would switch the shocks around and see if the problem follows the shock.
