I've seen people talking about Dakota springs and getting extra lift from using the springs and putting the add a leafs in and I'm just wondering if that is true and if they bolt straight up the same or what

There are a lot of threads about bastard pack lifts. Yes Dakota will work but you have to use the main spring from your cherokee. I'm running cherokee main all the rest Dakota and an aal. And I'm over 6" with a good ride..

New vs used? Im not sure. Probably nothing worth the money.
Plus if your going to buy new packs you might as well buy packs meant to actually lift a Jeep. Why send the money on something your going to only use part of.
I used s10 leafs and only used like 2 of the 4 and I got 4.5" of lift.

You actually take the Dakota springs APART. You need to cut the end EYES off and use the main spring along with YOUR Cherokee springs. I did this last fall on my 92 only I used S-10 Springs.
You DO NOT remove YOUR XJ main spring. You are adding to the TOTAL spring-pack with more leafs.
Here is a good starting point web page on the process.
http://pennythejeep.wordpress.com/wr...bastard-packs/
You WILL NEED:
New longer U-Bolts
Centering Pins
Longer REAR shocks if lifting more than 2 inches or so.
Brake extension hose for the rear OR relocate the bracket.
Patience.
PB BLASTER
An SYE if you are lifting more than 3 inches or so. Maybe. The NEWER XJs don't lift well I guess unless you dick with the driveshaft angles.

Not try ing to hijack here but would someone please explain this...How does adding maybe an inch of actual leaf thickness give you 3 or more inches of lift? Do the added plates apply more arc to your original main leaf or does it simply increase the stiffness so the weight of the vehicle will not compress them as much?

The way it has to be done is. ..
Xj main
A a l main
Then you can mix and match the rest to your liking. You wont get any guaranteed lift rights because it depends on your leads and the new ones
