Default Can I run my engine w/ the steering box out?

I have a 2000 XJ and was wondering if its ok to run the engine with the steering box having been removed. I pulled it out last week to rebuild/replace seals and I am waiting on one more part for it that is being shipped to me. While I'm waiting for it to arrive, I wanted to flush my cooling system. The PS pump and reservoir are still hooked up, but both are drained of any PS fluid that was in them. Is there a possibility that I could ruin the fluidless pump by ruining the engine to perform the flush? Thanks guys!

That'd be like running an engine with no oil
