Default Can I run 3.54:1 in the rear and 3.55:1 in the front?

Im about to pick up a rear XJ Dana 44 for my Jeep. Its a steal of a price but I have a quick question about the gear ratio before I go pick it up.

The gears in it are 3.54:1 and my Dana 30 up front has 3.55:1

am I going to have to switch gears? or will I be alright running it like it is?

Thanks for the help guys!

I think that just having 4 of the same size tires with different tread wear will make just about as much difference.

The slight difference is nothing to worry about.

even if you would to run your axles on a precision circular dial gauge, .01 of a turn would not be enough to leave a backlash.
saying that .01 will wear your gears out is like saying that driving in anything other than a straight line while in 4wd will wear your gears out.

This is almost normal.
Your D30 is most likely an actual 3.54:1. Normal gears would be 3.55 rear and 3.54 front but listed as 3.55 for both. 4.10 would be 4.10 rear and 4.09 front.

If the D44 has 4.10, you will need 4.10 in the front also. front and rear gearing MUST be matched, or Tranfercase will go BOOM.

There is actually a small margin of error for gears... I think it's like 1.5 percent...

I think tire wear difference between the front and back would be more than .01 difference, I wouldnt worry about the difference between 3.54 and 3.55

That is a 1% difference, Like I said befor efront gears are almost always acctually 1% numerically lower. If you buy gears say 3.55 the front WILL BE 3.54 and the rear will be 3.55 same with 3.73, 4.10, 4.56, ect.
