After recently rebuilding our I6, we want to go in for a diagnostics check to make sure everything is 100% OK. So today I went to the local auto store where they do free ones, and they got the chrystler adapter, and they could not find where to plug it in. I suspected that because I have an 89 renix, that there was no place to plug it in, even tho the parts guy insisted he has seen tons of other xjs and the plug in is just hidden in different locations.
Do I need to go to the stealer and pay $80 to get this done
?
He said the plug in would look like a relay point.
Thanks for the help

Renix XJ's... 87-90...
You have no plug. Tell the auto parts flunky to go back to staring mindlessly at the computer.
Also no check engine light.
All you need is a multi-meter and a bit of time. You will by far know more than a blinking orange light will ever tell you.
BlueXJ will pop in here in with the link to the LUNGHD page with the Renix diagnostics on it.

With all due respect, the check engine light codes do not diagnosis it! They just tell you what codes were pulled. Some codes are even encoded and only the dealer can veiw them in they're scan-tool. For example, a 02 sensor code can be a 02 sensor, or map sensor malfunction, or dumping too much fuel in, or too lean of fuel, or bad throttle response, etc. Codes just tell you what system is affected. when a place charges you for a diagnostic, they pull codes and then diagnosis the old fasion way. Codes just tell you where to look, not whats wrong., good luck!

I apologize for posting that apparently useless link earlier.
