Hey I don't know a whole lot about this stuff and this is my first real learning experience. I'm fixing this piece of **** myself and I have some questions some of you may think is dumb so I'd appreciate actual help instead of smart *** answers.

Think of it as an air compressor in reverse.. your engine makes plenty of vacuum at idle, but when you open the throttle the vacuum drops considerably. The vacuum reservoir, ball, bottle, tank, or thingie as it's often called keeps your vacuum operated accessories supplied with plenty of vacuum. Some relocate it to the engine compartment when they modify their bumpers.
