Default Can any of you take your keys out while driving?

Idk if its the cylinder that's worn out or the key itself, but I can slide my key right of the ignition while I'm driving and nothing happens. It's pretty funny and I do it to just about everyone that's riding in my Jeep for the first time. If you yank your keys out of the ignition while you're driving and throw them into a girls lap they will freak the **** out It can't be good, can it? I can start my XJ with my friend's TJ key, and at this point I feel like I could stick a flathead screwdriver in there and start it with that.

My buddy's TJ can do the same. I guess it's a Jeep thing...

My keys not that bad yet. I can pull it out on accessory though which is quite convenient. I remember my friend saying something about 3rd gen cummins doing this.

My key IS a flat head screw driver..... My lock cylinder kept seizing up and my kid was sick and didn't want to be stuck because he needed to go to the hospital....... ball pean hammer and a flat head made quick work of it..... He's fine btw.....

I can turn mine on without the key in, as long as it's not in the lock position. So if I ever happen leave my jeep unlocked and forget to put the ignition in the lock position, someone can easily open my door and take off. I got my buddies at school to laugh over it a few times actually. Only in a jeep

I had an old Buick that would do that. Convenient as hell. Loved it!

It's quite hilarious to take the keys out while driving and hand them to your passenger while on the highway. Girls usually just scream and my guy friends will just be like DUDE WTF ARE YOU DOING!!!!!

The reaction on my girlfriend's face was priceless when I took the key out once. She thought I broke it, haha.

Default key goes out

Yes, I can. My 90 jeep has been doing this for years. Sometimes I think it's rather convenient

my dad had a K5 that didn't need a key to start unless it was locked however when he was really deep in mud and got out to take a pic he lost his keys in the mud, he put it in the lock position, and he still can't figure out why he ever took the keys out in the middle of the woods. However the neighbor had a k5 and his key was worn enough to start it up. then he got stuck after all that. That was an interesting afternoon.

btw, taking the key out while driving is super safe...

I could do it in my 88 xj but my 94 doesn't do it. The original key for my brothers 06 Dodge does it.o

I take my keys out every time I'm on the trail. It's nice. They don't clank around while hoppin around on the rocks.

My 91 xj will crank without keys as long its not in the lock position. And I can remove them anytime. i find it very convenient to be able to remove them without turning off the truck!
