Default Can a 93 steering column go in a 95 xj?

hello people of this forum. I have bought a 1995 cherokee xj as my first project and when i bought it the steering column was broken [people tried to steal it].I have a 1993 steering column I can buy from a friend. I would like to know if I can put that 93 column in my 95.My 95 is a auto that has wipers and blinkers. The 93 column also seems to be the same configuration. I am unaware if there is a crossover year where jeep changed the steering column. Thank you for any knowledge you give to me.

If you grab the parts catalogs for both a 93 and 95 you can compare part numbers. Try xjjeeps.com or cruiser54.com for those catalogs in PDF form.

I do know that there was a pretty massive change in the steering wheel between 94 and 95.... 94 was the old school, horn in the center type steering wheel that you can get fancy upgrades to replace. 95 had a Driver's side airbag. 95 and 96 had ONLY DS airbags (it was standard I believe.. my 95 is a SE and has it) and these airbags are mechanical. 97+ have electronic airbags on both sides in the front.

Now, how does this affect the column behind that vastly different steering wheel -- I have no idea, but that parts catalog compare is certainly the first thing I would do to see.... obviously, if the part numbers match, you're good to go... if they differ... .it's more of a maybe, you'll have to either hope for someone to provide a better answer, or directly compare yourself.

The 95 column is a Chrysler design with all different electrical connections. Could you get a 93 to fit, probably. Could you get the electrical to work? some of it. Is it a direct replacement, heck no.

I think that's a wise decision.

And as for not knowing how to use the forum, well, you're doing just fine.
