Hello,
I've gotten my 99 xj on the road and have been driving it for about 2 months now. I've put around 2800 miles on it when my lower radiator hose came off on the highway. It overheated. When I stopped, i let it cool off and put the hose back on with a new clamp. I filled it up and got the air out and it drove home around 220 degrees consistently. I let it sit for a few hours until it was below normal temp. I go to start it and it took an entire can of ether to start it. The oil looked normal and there was no leakage out of the engine. When it started it ran horribly and died after about 10 seconds or with any throttle. I got a new cam sensor on the way but I wanted to know if I should replace the pulse ring as well. It looks ok but I'm wondering if it's something I should just do now to prevent later issues. Now it starts and runs ok for about 30 min before it starts revving up without any input.
second issue. When driving I have a grinding noise coming from the transfer case area. It hasn't gotten louder or quieter. The shop that inspected it said it was fine. I drained the fluid and filled it again no change. I got a spare transfer case but I wanted to know if there is something I could do to save this case without dropping it? Keep in mind this xj sat for about a year and a half. It has run through that period but I guess the case didn't move much if at all. My xj has the 242j transfer case.
any advice is greatly appreciated.

Jack the rear wheels of the ground. Take all safety precautions. Run vehicle in drive, very slow
upon doing this my slight rumble turns into a god awful racket, which I believe to be the chain whipping the 242 case inside
I will be changing out the 242 with a spare and dismantle the other to see if a repair is practical, a full OH kit with chain is about $500 !
