Default A/C Leak

Okay, I was going to just tough out the summer with no AC in my 01', but with these record high temps in the northeast right now, I cant bear anymore. Heres the story, bought the jeep over a month ago, knew from the start there was no AC. Guy claimed he didnt know when it went. So i figured it just needed a recharge. I bought an Advanced auto kit, and charged it, it took one bottle and it was like ice. I thought the problem was solved. Until I turned it off and I heard air leaking. Hour later, turned it on. No cold air. And I smelled the freon in the cabin. So is this common with these jeeps? Im guessing the leak is somewhere around the evaporator, what all has to be taken apart to get to it?

Confirm with a leak detector but it probably is the evaporator. Then do a search, there are a few write ups. Essentially you just remove the dash and you might as well replace the heater core while your there anyways.

If you dont have a leak detector put dye in the system and look for the dye coming out with the water in the condensation tube. I had to replace the evap on my 2000 model and yes the dash has to come out so I also suggest replacing the heater core.

Sounds like the evap as well. Pretty common. If you have to take it in expect to not be happy $$$. I looked at 10 jeeps before I bought mine and 9 out of 10 the air didn't work and I think I know why.
