Question A/C & Heater system Problems

Hey everyone , Have a 2001 cherokee Sport . Inline 6. pretty well cared for 145,000 miles . About 2 months after replacing the heater blower fan , Turned fan speed control **** up & it quit. Got a puff of smoke out of the center vents. removed center bezel , visual inspection of heater control unit , wires & Connectors everything in good condition . All fuses are intact. Any opinions on what went wrong & how to repair ? Thanks

Probably a burned out blower resistor. It works with the fan switch to set the various speeds. It's mounted on the blower housing inside the car. Probably accessible from under the dash on the passenger side. Look for a connector with 4 or 5 wires on it. Should be removable without having to tear out the housing, but not sure because I have a 96. Look for one of the .pdf shop/parts manuals that are referenced in this forum. Other posters may be able to point you to one for your car. that will give you the part number.

Remembered trouble w/ wire connectors on blower changeover. Sure enough , my iffiy connection of over a year ago was loose . All set now . thanks
