If you are using a gauge from one of those cans, they arent real accurate. Simple steps to try, with the engine OFF grab the center of the compressor and spin by hand, there should be resistance, but it shouldnt free spin, or feel locked up. Next step, start the vehical and turn ac on max, does the compressor turn on at all?? Meaning does the clutch engage and is the CENTER part of the compressor spinning. IF NO, find the low pressure switch and jumper it. Try to turn the ac on again, does the compressor turn on now?
I have the same issue. My a/c blows warm air. I checked under my hood and found that my clutch, radiator fan, condensers fan turns on. now i recently took my jeep to a a/c "specialist" and said i had too much freon on both the high and low system. after correcting it. im still having the same problem and this florida heat is killing me. please help
still cold,tnx rambler!
my quik check is raise hood,is compressor running?
if it is, touch the tubing going into firewall, nearest the engine, should be COLD within minutes.
if its cold you got air, check the blend door.
Glad it's working well! Yeah, on the XJ it's not really feasible to directly check the temperature of the evaporator but as you say that tube going into the firewall should get cold if the AC system is working.

The tubing is cold, i'll check the blend door tomorrow.
okay, im new at this. so i was looking into the blend door online to look for it's location and i came across these two parts. Now im not sure which i should be really looking at or how to figure what's damaged on my 2000 jeep sport cherokee (no 4x4 =( ). I mean the actuator only deals with heat right? and i need cold air.
.
The blend door is involved in both heating and cooling. As its name suggests, it blends air from the heater core and AC evaporator to obtain the desired outlet temperature. So it is quite possible for the AC to be otherwise working OK, but the blend door is forcing hot air out the vents.
A quick and dirty test is to put your HVAC system into vent mode with temperature control turned all the way down. Warm the engine up. If you get heated air out of the vents you've got a problem with the blend door. (This is best done with the car having sat overnight or at least in the shade - if it bakes in the hot sun for a while you'll get hot air out of the vents due to everything under the dash being heated up.)
Okay guys I was looking around my floor of the passenger side and notice my rug is soaked. so i checked underneath and saw this hose. after i called a friend he told me that my actuator and the hose must be clogged therefore not receiving cold air. So how would i go about unclogging these?
o I lifted the rug and saw that there was alot of water and a black hose.
I saw lots of talk about the clutch but nothing about the electric fan or the accumulator.. I assume this year doesnt have an electric fan but if you go to your accumulator and unplug the 2 wire lead that goes to it and put a jumper wire between the 2 wires on the plug then you can kick your clutch on and off.. fairly simple test that takes less than 5 min..
