Question Buying a 2000 XJ Sport

Ok, I had to get rid of my CJ a couple months back and I have been wanting to get a XJ to replace a little bit of what I lost. I have been looking for a while to buy a XJ and I think that I found one, but there are a couple small problems and are totally fixable. The Jeep has a little over 109K, drives nice, runs well and underbody is pretty rust free. I would like to get others advice and how to fix.

1) Turn signal stays on.
- Pretty sure this is just the turn signal flicker relay
- How expensive are they and how hard to fix?

2) The A/C evaporator has been replaced and works well, but the one problem is that the temperature controler that makes hot go to cold or visa versa does not work all the time or very slowly. When it does change you can hear the thing that moves the flapper moving.
- What is the reason it takes so long to change temperature?
- How hard is it to get to the evaporator?

3) The windows can only be operated from the drivers panel.
- my guess is that the window lock switch is either dirty and needs cleaned or just needs replaced
- Is this realistic?

4) The disengagement from 4 Hi to 2 Hi is slow and loud.
- Not really a problem, but is there a way to fix that so it changes better and quieter? Just a little knit picky.

5) The Jeep did not have remote door lock/unlock.
- Was that standard or option?

6) What maintence should I do when I get the Jeep?
- I was thinking about replacing all U-Joints
- Change Trans fluid and filter
- Change transfer case fluid
- Change both front and rear diff fluids
- Any thing else or is this too much and not needed?

7) Is there anything else that I should be aware of that might need fixed or will be a problem. The A/C evaporator is new, the exhaust header is not, but it does not sound like it is leaking, yet.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Drive a few miles on the highway and double check for low oil pressure at idle. Assume you have already checked front and rear main seals.

Yeah, I check the front and rear main seals, but I was not too concerned with what I found because I was planning on replacing them. Also check the axle seals, they seemed good too.

I have a 2000 Sport 2 Door. I purchased it in 2001 with 6000 miles on it. Here is what I've encountered.

In 2006 I had the AC Evaporator replaced. Knowing what I know now, I would have had the heater core done at the same time since they are in the same enclosure behind the dash and you have to almost completely remove the dash to get to it.

My driver seat frame is falling apart. It's pretty apparent as the seat leans back and to the passenger side. Not as big a deal in a 4 door since you can find quite a few seats that will fit, but the 2 door is tough since they need to fold forward. I'm limited in what I can get in a JY.

I've had to take my rear hatch lock apart 2 or 3 times to clean and tighten when it either sticks or won't close.

I replace the valve cover gasket around 100k miles due to leaks.

Normal wear and tear maintenance such as tires, brakes, belt etc.

I am currently having a problem with a lack of heat. You mentioned how it's slow going from hot to cold and back. In the process of troubleshooting my heat, I had the blend door motor off and noticed that the motor turns very slow which might explain what you are seeing.

Overall I am quite pleased with it and will be handing it down to my daughter in a few months to keep it in the family.
