A question about that spline count. I hope it's not thread jacking. I think it's on topic.

I've seen that posted before about spline counts and wondered if you needed to change the spiders in the carrier if you wanted to change axle shafts. Like on the 8.25 they have 2 flavours 27 and 29 spline. If I had a 94 with the 27 spline to change to 29 spline I could just change over the spider gears right?
So if the OP wanted to use those 30 spline axles you mention he'd have to do that correct? Or do you order the eaton E-Locker that way?
When I was racing I always left the differential work to a buddy who was a genuis at that.

30 spline full case lockers are common. Yes you need to specify which locker you want, OEM style 27 spline or 30 spline upgrade.

Agreed. For 33's this is more than enough. I would still definitely consider that 8.8 swap to the rear, though.
All you would have to do is weld on new spring perches and shock mounts and then bleed brakes and whatnot and your good to go.

I found one online for $250 with a LS and disc brakes.

I have a lockright in my D30 it works pretty good and fairly cheap and they claim a easy install. i don't even notice its there until i need it.

good luck. probably put a assie locker (same as lockright) in my JK's D30

I'm in the same boat right now and trying to find out as much as I can before I start buying parts. So to clarify, you don't have to buy new spider gears? Or do they get replaced when you buy a new locker? Sorry I don't really know much about gears and lockers and I'm going to have a shop do the install. Also my other question is can I buy a Auburn Eckted locker for the 30 spline shafts. Everywhere I've looked they all say they are for 27 spline and I kind of like this one a little more than the Eaton ELocker because when dis-engaged it's a limited slip. I have the hp d30 by the way and sorry to hijack the thread but I figured it's on topic and very simular to what I want to do. thanks

Yes the ected comes in 30 spline.. you just have to find a place that stocks them. Be advised finding 30 spline alloys can be kinda hard. I know one person who kept calling alloy usa endors for a month before finally giving up and going with 27 spline stuff

Why? The ECTED is not a mechanical locker....never has been. Do a search here, on NAXJA, JF, JU..... you'll find the same info. When engaged they still slip. A complete waste of money. If your going to invest in a selectable locker, buy one that actually locks the axles together.

ARB, and Eaton's E-Lockers are both availble in a 27 spline and 30 spline config.

i just read the whole 30/44 hybrid page and thought... wouldnt it be easier and cheaper to just convert the CJ D30 to coil springs and save the deal with cutting off the knuckles yokes and rewelding them and all that mess? then just bolt the D44 knuckles on and go from there? would think the axle itself would be stronger with the stock welds vs. anybody elses... although i guess you would loose the ability to correct your pinion angle and caster...

Ok cool. thanks for the heads up. Is the slip on the ected really that bad of a slip? I mean I understand that is doesn't fully lock because it uses clutches but will it not spin at all when your in a tough line causing you to get stuck or will it just not pull as hard as a 100% locked locker. I'm not sure I'm even understanding enough to ask the right question here sorry.

No, the CJ Widetrack Dana 30 is about 56" whereas the Cherokee Dana 30 is around 60", so unless you want to add big wheel spacers I would say just stick with the Cherokee Dana 30.

After the last 3 post I was hoping someone else would point out that the CJ D30 IS ON THE WRONG SIDE. Also the CJ d30 uses the weaker 260 u-joint, unless you upgrade the axle shafts.

If you were going to pull knuckles and turn C's I would go to the j-yard and use a 10 bolt axle for a donor.

i think so... could even cut it down to the right width (since u gotta order custom inner axles anyway) but would have to move around mounts...

You don't have to order custom axles necessarily. You could cut it down to wagoneer specs and run those waggy shafts from the junk yard.
