Default Build Up still have P0303, P1898 P0700 errors

Well I am fairly new here and have search mutliple times before posted for help/advice/suggested next steps. Sorry for the longish thread but I feel it better to give too much info than not enough.

1997 Cherokee Sport 4.0 Auto 4WD 248K
Purchased for $1K as a spare/first vehicle for my son.

Previous owner cut off the exhaust before the cat and install an small turbo muffler. The drone would kill you or make you deaf for a while.
Person I got if from ( PO pawned title) got it from started going back thru it but got to a point I think that he was putting more money into it than he wanted. In other words it wasn't an easy fix.

Step 1
Picked up high flow cat with downflow O2 port and a Bosch O2 sensor both new and installed. Helped with sound have some exhaust leaks since everything is held together with clamps. I don't (yet) have a welder. Harbor Frieght is looking good for $90.00. I digress.

Step 2
Had codes scanned P0700 & P1898. Researched and then removed the NSS. What a PITA to get to & out. Took about three hours to get out, took apart, used emery board to clean contacts, used tune-up dielectric grease to relubricate and re-installed. Have reverse lights now. Tranny seems to shift a bit better.

Step 3
CEL back on codes of P0303 & P0305. Researched these. Engine has new plugs, wires, distrib cap. Discovered plugs were Autolites. Removed gapped correctly used dielectric grease on wires, anti-seize on plug threads re-installed. Slight improvement but CEL. Came back.

Step 4
Removed Autolites after reading more about Champions or nothing. Went back with stock plugs RC12LYC gapped @ .35 Also removed Throttle Body cleaned it along with IAC. No real change.

Step 5
Researched more and sorry but just had this gut feeling that with the miles that the CPS could be the issue. Starting did seem to take just a bit more cranking than I would term normal. Not excessive, and it did always start but just now fire right up. Picked up MOPAR CPS. Read about how much fun it was to change. Disconnected front drive shaft at tranfer case and pushed drive shaft over out of the way. Other than the paranoia of dropping one of the bolts got it done in about 35 mins. Disconnected the battery and said my prayers that all would be good.

Today....drove it around doing some errands. After about 30 mins CEL back on. Stopped at AutoZone for a code scan and now I back to the P0700 & P1898 which the NSS corrected with the P0303 as an added bonus.

Other than the slight start delay and a somewhat rough idle the Jeep run pretty good. Via the over head console it's averaging 15.8 mpg and has no stumbling, dieing or other issues.

Don't really have the funds to keep replacing sensors @ $50.00 a pop. Esp since electrical components are non-returnable. Felt really good about the NSS rebuild so I am a bit discouraged that the P0700 & P1898 are back. I did feel that I needed to double check the NSS position since the first day afterwards the son panic a bit a school. Couldn't get the key out. I went up, bumped the shifter up a bit more and pulled the key right now. Five teenage boys were totally amazed but it didn't surprise me the least.

Next logical steps?

700 is transmission code. It shows 700 when a car has one of 700 codes.
It can be 721 or 732, but you'll see 700.
Make sure you hooked up tr connector, then you need better code reader to get exact tr. code.

I had a cyl 1 misfire on my '98. Ran across a TSB for '96-'98 4.0 engines about misfires. The fix is to use Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner and replace the valve springs. I did that, and all is well.

Thanks for the reply.

Just a couple of questions to verify...

Exactly what is the TR connector?

Also found information regarding re-indexing the Camshaft Position Sensor. Is this a proceedure that can be done on my 97 model?

OK..thanks that is what I had hoped.
Double checked. Reverse lights still work.
When I rebuilt NSS I actually applied a small amount of dielectric grease to the connector.
